Final Days to Donate to KMUZ

2011 has been an extremely productive year for KMUZ that has culminated in going On The Air on December 17!  Thanks to past support from donors, along with the thousands of hours spent by dedicated community members, we have surmounted many obstacles with our all-volunteer effort.

Ongoing payments for the transmitter equipment and monthly operational expenses of over $500—soon to be over $1,000 by midwinter—necessitate financial support more than ever.  Please consider becoming a supporter of KMUZ with your donation of $40, $100, or more.  All of your donations are 100% tax deductible, and best of all, you’re investing in the growth of our area’s first community-run radio station!

Click on the “Donate” button on the right or mail your check to KMUZ-FM, P.O. Box 12038, Salem OR 97309.  Many thanks and best wishes for 2012 from the KMUZ family.

Tuesday – KMUZ at “Magic”

Great help from Pat, Vickie, Maggie, David and Chris at Magic at the Mill. These folks pulled in dozens of visitors and made station IDs with all the kids. Andrew recorded and hacked up the audio files and has put several in the top of the hour ID. Listen for these kids, they are so cool!

Randy Hill, Chris Lehman, Allie Learn and Rummagin’ Ray were slated for this evenings lineup. Our magical guests were thrilled to see the DJs at work.

It’s OFFICIAL – KMUZ Receives FCC Broadcast Authorization

KMUZ was granted permission to broadcast on air. Everyone in the KMUZ family is jazzed after waiting two weeks for the final authority. We have decided to flip the switch on Saturday, December 17th at noon. Our programs are in place and the whole gang at KMUZ invite you to tune in tomorrow when we throw the switch.

Also, come by the studios next week, Monday thru Friday between 5:00 and 8:30 pm. Mission Mill is having the “Magic at the Mill” and KMUZ volunteers will be at hand to show you our studios and answer any questions about how you can get involved in the newest community radio station on the planet!

Rick and Andrew Tackling Spinitron

What an outstanding effort these two have given in getting the studio in tip top shape. Rick with his IT experience and Andrew adding to and tuning up the On-Air studio. KMUZ is lucky to have such great behind-the-scenes genius!

KMUZ BEGINS PROGRAMMING

We’re not yet on the air (oh so close!), but a few locally produced programs are starting to be churned out over the web stream in anticipation of our upcoming over the air broadcasts. Sonic Quarry has started on Wednesday evenings at 7:00pm and Mash UP with Marc (alternate Fridays, 2-4pm) began Nov 25th.. Check the PODCASTSpage to check out Marc’s inaugural show, rebroadcasting an edited version from Friday.

BECOME A DJ! or create some PUBLIC AFFAIRS programing and get your opinions, talents, and knowledge on the air to share with the community.

Update on Wipper Hill

Well…progress has been made, although we didn’t finish our “To-Do List” today.

Our wooden monopole tower is firmly planted on our lot on Wipper Hill (looks way cool from I-5).  However, our pole climber succumbed to the flu today before we got the antenna hung.  Rather than our risk being hurled upon from a great height (or having James of BTS fall off the tower in a feint) we shut down today before we attached our antenna to the mounting pipe.

We will be gathering the clan again next week.  We will hang and point the antenna and that might be the day we hook up the transmitter and re-establish our internet Studio-Transmitter-Link.  We’ll see if we have all our gear in time for that.

Cheers,
Dave Hammock
